From: WWIC 2012 Subject: [WWIC 2012] Your paper #1569547731 ('Exploiting Opportunistic Overhearing to Improve Performance of Mutual Exclusion in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks') has been accepted Date: February 10, 2012 1:30:30 PM CST To: Ghazale Hosseinabadi Cc: Nitin Vaidya , Dear Ms. Ghazale Hosseinabadi, Congratulations - your paper #1569547731 ('Exploiting Opportunistic Overhearing to Improve Performance of Mutual Exclusion in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks') has been accepted for presentation at the WWIC 2012. The paper will be published in the conference proceedings. The committee evaluated the papers based on their quality, relevance, maturity, novelty and presentation. Within this context, based on the final ranked list, it accepted 23 papers that were ranked first as regular papers to be presented in different thematic sessions and 6 papers that ranked last (above threshold) as short papers to be presented in a work-in-progress session. All papers satisfied the criteria of novelty, presentation, relevance and in addition, demonstrated clear potential for significant impact; therefore, all 29 papers will be included in the proceedings.               The acceptance of your paper is made with the understanding that at least one author will do a regular (non-student) registration before March 26, 2012, and will attend the conference to present the paper. Otherwise, the paper is considered withdrawn and will not appear in the conference proceedings. Registration information will be uploaded on the WWIC 2012 website soon. The camera-ready version of your paper is due by February 24, 2012. Please adhere to the formatting standard for a 12-page manuscript of Springer-Verlag LNCS. Please follow the reviewers' comments in order to improve your manuscript, which must be uploaded together with the copyright form according to the instructions at: http://www.wwic2012.org/camera-ready-submission The reviews for your papers are below or can be found at http://edas.info/showPaper.php?m=1569547731, using your EDAS user name ghossei2@illinois.edu. We are looking forward to welcome you in Santorini in June. Best regards, WWIC 2012 TPC Chairs Lefteris Mamatas and Ibrahim Matta ---------------------------- ======= Review 1 ======= *** Contribution: What are the major issues addressed in the paper? Do you consider them important? Comment on the degree of novelty, creativity and technical depth in the paper. The paper describes algorithms; TOA and TROA, that use distributed token based mutual exclusion in wireless networks. The proposed algorithms exploit overhearing the messages in the wireless channel comparing with Raymond's algorithm and Trehel-Naimi's algorithm in simulated environments. In certain conditions, the proposed can decrease the number of transmitted messages and delay per critical section entry using the information obtained from overheard messages. *** Strengths: What are the major reasons to accept the paper? [1 - 3 sentences] The paper describes the algorithms in clear forms. *** Weaknesses: What are the most important reasons NOT to accept the paper? [1 - 3 sentences] Related work section is missing. It is hard to judge how this approach is novel compared to existing approaches. *** Detailed comments: Please provide detailed comments that will be helpful to the TPC for assessing the paper, as well as feedback to the authors. The paper is written well in general. However, it seems the work is focused on solving a specific problem or in a particular environment. Some discussion of the applicability of the presented work onto more general research domain would be good. The analysis of simulation should be improved such as more visible plotting on showing the significance of improvement with your algorithms. Further discussion on TOA and TROA is desirable. *** Relevance: How relevant is the paper to WWIC? Relevant (3) *** Recommendation: Your overall rating. Weak Accept (4) ======= Review 2 ======= *** Contribution: What are the major issues addressed in the paper? Do you consider them important? Comment on the degree of novelty, creativity and technical depth in the paper. The paper describes ways of improving the performance of distributed mutual exclusion mechanisms, based on incidentally acquired knowledge of the current holder of the network mutex token.  The proposed adaptations are ingenious and are described in thorough technical detail. *** Strengths: What are the major reasons to accept the paper? [1 - 3 sentences] The work is perhaps less important for what it achieves than for what it suggests is achievable.  Improving the performance of distributed mutual exclusion is worthwhile, and the expedients proposed embody some really creative and imaginative problem-solving.  The paper is clearly written and well organized. *** Weaknesses: What are the most important reasons NOT to accept the paper? [1 - 3 sentences] The simulation results are not especially dramatic, becoming less compelling as network size and level of activity increase.  The idea doesn't seem to scale well. *** Detailed comments: Please provide detailed comments that will be helpful to the TPC for assessing the paper, as well as feedback to the authors. This is well-thought-out work with potential for modest improvement in some environments.  It would be very fine if the authors' creativity led to follow-on research with more profound impact on network application performance. *** Relevance: How relevant is the paper to WWIC? Definitely Relevant (4) *** Recommendation: Your overall rating. Strong Accept (5) ======= Review 3 ======= *** Contribution: What are the major issues addressed in the paper? Do you consider them important? Comment on the degree of novelty, creativity and technical depth in the paper. The paper proposes a new mutual exclusion technique for distributed systems which is connected via wireless ad hoc networks. A proposed method makes use of broadcast nature of wireless channel and overheard information. It improves overhead of control messages and delay with satisfying mutual exclusion, deadlock free and starvation free. *** Strengths: What are the major reasons to accept the paper? [1 - 3 sentences] The paper proposes a new mutual exclusion technique for distributed systems which is connected via wireless ad hoc networks. A proposed method makes use of broadcast nature of wireless channel and overheard information. It improves overhead of control messages and delay with satisfying mutual exclusion, deadlock free and starvation free. *** Weaknesses: What are the most important reasons NOT to accept the paper? [1 - 3 sentences] The paper assumes that packets are not dropped on wireless channel with reliability support on MAC layer. *** Detailed comments: Please provide detailed comments that will be helpful to the TPC for assessing the paper, as well as feedback to the authors. The paper treats very interesting technical issues. Although it has technical weakness of assuming no packet loss on wireless channel, it opens a new technical fields of distributed system on ad hoc networks. *** Relevance: How relevant is the paper to WWIC? Relevant (3) *** Recommendation: Your overall rating. Weak Accept (4)
